The Cypriot government is subsidising by 55% the installation of photovoltaic cells on the roofs of houses and pays people according to the kilowatts of energy they produce by using the sun. The investment will pay off within 6 years and from then on, citizens can earn an income staring from 1700 euros per year!
The way it works is that The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (AHK) installs a special meter that records the amount of energy produced by the households and essentially buys the electricity produced from them.
The price of a photovoltaic system which can produce 5-6 KW and can cover the needs of an average household is approximately 15000 euros. People are advised to check the quality of such systems as some of them do not offer the required performance.
Taking advantage of the sunny climate Cyprus has to offer, this seems like a profitable investment!
